It’s easy to set up your own art supply library to share free creative materials in your community. All you really need is a sturdy outdoor cabinet and some clear signage.

What You’ll Need

  • A weather-resistant outdoor cabinet. I used the IKEA KOLBJÖRN cabinet. It’s metal, lockable if needed, and stands up to the weather.
  • A vinyl wrap or sign. This helps people understand what it is and how it works.

Signage Files Available

I’m offering a free downloadable zip file with the same vinyl wrap design I use. You can have it printed locally to match your cabinet.

Simple Steps

  1. Buy or repurpose a suitable outdoor cabinet.
  2. Clean and prep the surface if you plan to add vinyl.
  3. Apply the signage so people know it’s an Art Supply Library.
  4. Place it in an accessible, visible spot where people can visit easily.
  5. Stock it with art and craft supplies to share!

Tips

  • Let neighbors know about it.
  • Encourage local artists or crafters to donate extras.
  • Check in occasionally to tidy and restock.
